lawl wut? Nico Nico Douga (ニコニコ動画) Smiling Videos is a video sharing website which was launched earlier in the year and has gained such popularity that it now has(as of October 2007) over 3 million users. Basically it’s Japan’s very own Youtube. Seeing as how people I know are unaware of the site and thus unable to share videos with them, I’ve decided to write up on it.

why should i care? There is much content here that cannot be obtained in places like Youtube, and they are usually otaku-centric, which is why I’m posting on it.

Unfortunately, at this point in time, the site is Japanese only, and since you are required to login to be able to view any of the videos, you’re going to need to know the language to be able to register(you could try with plain guesswork) or have someone do it for you(like what I did)

meh Of course, you could try googling for tutorials on how to sign up, and trust me it’s worth it, but since you’re already here, you might as well follow the guide below which I’m going to post, courtesy of Anonymous.

It’s pretty straightforward, and although I’ve not personally tried it, I let a friend, Male A, try it, and he managed to figure it out, despite having the proportionate intelligence of a squirrel.

yay Hopefully you’re a member by now, and remember, the keywords have to be in Japanese for the search function to yield any results. Also, to conserve bandwidth, free members can only access the site during certain times of the day, so don’t fret if you aren’t able to access the site. Of course, there’s the Premium option… Either way, have fun browsing videos on Nico Nico Douga, not to mention commenting in real time(one of the features that make the site so awesome), so I hope this article has proved useful.
